In
1959, Mrs. Mabel Lewis, Principal, and the graduating
class of 1960 hosted the first Homecoming for the Alumni
on November 25, 1959. The High School Gymnasium was
filled to capacity with about 400 people attending.
The
election of officers included the following officers.
Ernest Sturch Jr., a 1947 graduate of Achille High
School was elected to serve as the first president of
the Achille Alumni; Gene Rochelle, a 1949 graduate, as
first Vice President; Barry Love, 1951 graduate, as
second Vice President; Mrs. Nina Perkins Lambert, 1950
graduate, as Secretary; L.C. Wesberry, 1951 as
Treasurer; Mrs. Lucile Hartzler Whitson a 1929 graduate
as, Reporter.
Honored guests for this Homecoming were members of the
basketball state champions of 1949 and the 1949
administrative officers, Mr. Everett McKinnis,
Superintendent, and Mr. R. J. Maxwell, Principal. The
film of the championship game was shown, and cheers were
as loud and strong as they were ten years ago.

The
first graduating class was in 1923,but our senior
graduation pictures start in 1928 ( as we are trying to
locate the first five years of graduating classes). The
Alumni released a DVD last year featuring all of the
graduates who graduated from Achille in 1928 through
2006 who are on the records at Achille, this is put to
music and includes a clip from the Championship game in
1949.
The
DVD can be purchased by contacting our secretary, Glenda
Lane Nicholson.
We
award annual scholarships to graduating seniors who
desire to go for higher education. This will help with
their expenses, in some cases it has made a difference
in continuing their education.
We
hope you will come to our annual Homecoming Alumni
meeting, renew old friendships and make new ones.
We'll
meet this year November 18th and 19th.
